Patricia Frischer

"Borders of Intimacy", an exhibition mixed media paintings by Patricia Frischer was shown at San Diego Mesa College Art Gallery, San Diego, CA.  March 31-April 26, 2005 and Mary Ogilvie Gallery, St. Anne's College, Oxford University, Oct. 2005.
An illustrated catalogue of the exhibition with essays by the gallery director, is available online at www.DrawsCrowd.com.

Elegant mixed media paintings by Patricia Frischer emerged from a 2-year project, which focused on the nature of relationships and the shifting of public and personal boundaries in contemporary society.

Frischer's images in muted colors alternate between sensual cinematic close-ups of luscious lips or flirty cleavages, and witty visual collages were political characters and historical romantic figures float and mingle in an evanescent landscape.

Symbols of human interchanges are echoed across the works:  clowns as lovers, lips that attract, hands in places which are suspect, shadow men, and rings of devotion and bondage.

The works reflect the complexities of human nature.  The paintings attract you with their beauty and their wit, and then they challenge you to interpret the mystery, to find the heart and soul of each piece.

Patricia Frischer lives in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA, and has published books on Artists in the Marketplace.  A founder of the San Diego Visual Arts Network, Frischer earned her BA and MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts.
